Masks

A mask defines a new boundary for the original layer. Only the part of this layer that lies within the mask will be visible. You can add any kind of layer to a mask, and add as many as you like.

Just as you can use any layer as a mask, you can also give any layer a mask; the possibilities are limitless.

Note that masks are only available in DrawIt Pro.

Adding Masks

There are two ways to add a mask:

  1. Select a layer and click 'add mask' from the Toolbar. Notice that the rest of the document fades away: Now when you add a layer, it will be added to the mask.
  2. Select two layers and select Insert → New Mask from Layer.... The top layer will serve as a mask for the other one.

Editing Masks

Every option related to masks can be found under the Masks-menu. When you want to edit an existing mask use Masks → Edit Mask. When you're in a mask, choose Masks → Leave Mask to leave the mask.

Compositing

You can specify in what way the masks blends with the underlying layer. The default is Normal which only displays the part of the underlying image inside the mask. Experiment with the other options to see their effect.
