IPTC Information
Edit IPTC data
With Informator you can add IPTC meta data to your image files. These information are saved within the image.
Informator uses the IPTC standards so you can use the added information in many other applications and databases like e. g. Adobe® Photoshop.
To create an entry simply click into a field and write. Use the tab key to jump to the next field or jump to the previous field with tab and pressed shift key.
Informator Pro only:
New in Version 2.0: Writing directly into multiple files
Since version 2.0 of Informator Pro, its possible to write IPTC data into the IPTC fields, even if multiple files are selected. Pressing the return key writes the data to the files. You can use the same options for writing as you use for using templates: "Replace all", "Do not replace", "Do not replace if exist", "Add" (For further instructions, see
Field Options).
PopUp field menus
You can add or change single field entries very comfortable, too: For every field you can create Pop up menus with your favorite entries. Simply click on the little arrow on the right of the field to modify the menu or to chose an entries from it.
Use variables
You can work with variables like "actual date" within your menus and templates. This way in the moment of insertion e.g. the actual date will be written to the field.
Don't be surprised to see the variable <$actual date> as text within your template. It will be resolved when it will be written to the file.
It's possible to combined textparts and variables to one entry string.
Use IPTC templates
You can save IPTC-entries as templates to fill in entries very fast. To create a template just fill in the wanted entries and chose "save as IPTC-template" from the meta popup menu

in the head of the IPTC section.
To add the template information to a selected image just chose the template from the IPTC popup menu.
To change template chose "show templates" from the IPTC pop up. All saved templates are shown in the Finder, click on th wanted template and type in the new information.
Standard template
Define your favorite template as "standard" and add it to your files with a single click on the standard button

.
Batch processing
You can add an IPTC-template to multiple files. Simply activate them and chose the wanted template from the meta menu

.
Please make sure the "group info" mode

is activated for batch processing.
If your selection is "mixed", but you would like to add meta-data to all files which can contain it, press the option key to suppress the warning dialogs.
Field options
There are several options to determine how the entries of a template should be inserted to a file.
To view and change this options, chose from the meta menu "show all templates". Then activate the wanted one. In the IPTC section of the info palette now you can see symbols on the left side, which show you the chosen options. Click on a symbol to change it and chose a new option from the upcoming popUp menu. Options are:
Replace always: All included data will be replaced by the new template entries. If there are empty fields within the template old entries in these sections will be deleted, too.
Do not replace: This field will not be changed. Written data will be saved.
Do not replace if exists: If there is already an entry in this field, it will be saved. If there is no entry yet the template data will be inserted.
Add: The template information is added to the existing fieldinformation.

Platforms
The IPTC information added to JPEG and Tiff files is written directly into the image. This means these informations are visible on PC, too. IPTC entries written to other image files are saved within the resources. They can only be seen on platforms and by applications which support resource data.
Attention:
Informator saves all IPTC data conforming to the IPTC standards. If you have got some image files with integrated IPTC data from unknown applications, make sure whether these information fits the IPTC standards. Otherwise the files could be damaged.
