Campaign Intro

It was a Friday night... I had finally arrived to my apartment from the office, after a whole hour behind the wheel, trying to escape the chaotic traffic in the city. I wasn't feeling very good, maybe because another day had passed without seeing any clients stepping into the office, needing me to investigate their husband/wife affairs, their neighbours strange habits, their disappeared relatives or simply someone else's bank accounts... but, during all day, I kept having this strange feeling inside my chest, that something, something big was about to happen...and boy!, was i wishing it to happen real fast...

I checked my mail...just bills and more bills. "Damn!" - I shouted, while banging the front door - "Soon I won't have a dime even to connect to the Net!". The money hardly earned in the successful campaign in Arulco against Deidranna's forces, six months ago, was now running out, though it seemed so much money at the time...But NO, i couldn't return to such quests and adventures... I had decided to retire from that life, when my beloved and dear wife, before dying, made me promiss to her that I wouldn't ever comeback to the mercenary business, fearing that soon my luck would run out and something bad could happen to me. I now had become a private investigator, trying to earn money from a much more "cleaner" way, and without the extreme dangers from those high-adrenalin night raids to the enemy squads. But it was getting harder and harder to survive, psicologically and monetarily. Why people don't hire investigators anymore?? But the worst was that my abilities for the "normal" civilian occupations were so limited that I wouldn't dare to try any other job.

So, inside the small apartment, I grabbed the nearest bottle of whiskey and layed in the couch while drinking it. Grabbed the semi-broken TV remote control from the floor and turned the TV on, to check the sports news...damn! my team had lost again, making it 4 defeats in a row. BANG!!! The remote control flew across the room, definitely breaking apart against the wall. That's when suddenly, someone knocked at the front door. Ten seconds later, I opened the door, but no one was in the other side...really strange I thought to myself, as I looked both ways in the apartment corridor but no one was at sight. That's when I noticed a small, green package, lying in the ground just near the carpet. I grabbed the package, and not much info was on the outside, except for this logo at the corner, where you could perfectly read the initials: AIM.

I again entered the apartment, much intrigued with the events, grabbing a chair while opening the package. The strange feeling in my chest was now more intense than ever...Inside there was several documents, color photos, a floppy disk and a hand-written letter. I then start reading it:

To the ever best "Field Commander" :

Unfortunely, Arulco has returned to the dark days of oppression, my friend. This time, the evil comes in the name of Armand & Lora Ricci, that with the help of an army of thugs from Ricci Mining have overthrown the government of Tracona and have set up the existant missile base there to threaten Arulco. They claim, that if their demands are not satisfied, they will use the missiles to bring hell and chaos to Arulco once more. Of course, we cannot accept such conditions and we have to act on the field stealthly to eliminate such threat while we try to postpone the deadline, maintaining the negotiations as long is humanly possible to the Arulcan authorities.

We have been contacted by the Arulcan and ex-Traconian government, to stop this threat ASAP. Our first measure was to send an expert saboteur, whose objectives were to neutralize the missiles. Unfortunely our plans were somehow discovered by the enemy and the helicopter carrying the saboteur was shot down near the city of Varrez on Traconian ground. We suspect that he and the helicopter pilot Sam Garver were captured and taken prisioners somewhere in Tracona. The co-pilot, Tony Lorenz, seems to have successfully escaped Ricci’s troops and should be somewhere hidden in Tracona. We need YOU now, on the ground with a six-pack merc team to investigate their whereabouts in the first place, and then terminate the missile threat over Arulco, either by helping the missing saboteur if you do find him alive, or by acting for yourself, as you see best fit in our and the populations interests.

Our last info reports that the chopper was shot down near the city of Varrez and a closeby SAM site (we are still to find the exact location of it). So, we strongly suggest to start searching there for clues as soon as you get on the field. The needed funds will be put to your disposal, at the usual place, so you can choose the team of your trust for the job. All other valuable info was gathered and sent to you along this letter, so study it carefully.

Now, I'm aware of the reasons that made you leave from our agency some months ago, but I'm sure that the importance of this matter and what it's at stake here is certainly nothing to be discarded. And AIM and the people from Arulco and Tracona need you once more to bring freedom to their lives, because only you are up to such task. I know you won't refuse this assignment... this is what you know how to do best! We're all counting on you.

   Best luck,

Michael Cain - AIM head-director (and personal friend...)

..."Damn! Damn!"... that's the only thing I could say in the first five minutes after reading the letter. But it didnt took much more time to realize what had be to done, I had to fulfill my destiny. In such special circunstances I was sure that my wife would understand and give her support, so that the Arulconian population could smile once more. This is what I love, this is what I know to do best. "I can't and I won't turn away now", said to myself while I inserted the floppy disk into the laptop...... Hmmm, let’s see what we have here…
